UK Government supports the SFD Phase IV with GBP100 million
The UK Government has been meeting its commitment to supporting the ROYG efforts toward development. The UK Department of International Development approved to grant Yemen a GBP 100 million-funding to support the activities of the Social Fund for Development Phase IV (2011-2015) that supports the Project Development Objectives. This initiative has been to emphasize the arrangements committed by Government of Republic of Yemen through the Social Fund for Development in order to contribute to poverty alleviation in participation with the target communities and local councils. As well, it confirms on the SFD's efficient work mechanisms and approaches in this field and on its performance scale.
The new UK funding will support four key programs identified by the SFD Phase IV Vision that aims to improve the community's basic services and infrastructure, such as schools and health facilities, water facilities, rural roads and environmental protection ... etc., provide institutional support, capacity-building and transfer of knowledge and skills of the cadres and organizations whose work relates to the SFD objectives at the central and local levels, develop the small and micro enterprises as one of the most important tools to alleviate poverty, reduce unemployment and increase income, and implement the Labor-intensive Works Program that enables communities to implement projects of intensive labor in the rural poor communities that are affected by the global rise of food prices and climate change.
So far, the total assistance provided by DFID for the third phase of the SFD operations (2004-2010) have amounted up to GBP70.1 million
